The 1st Malborough Cubs meet on Wednesdays during term time from 6.00 to 7.30pm at the Malborough Village Hall Annexe.

The age range for Cub Scouts is 8 to 10½ years

Contact: Akela (Mervyn Johns) on 01548 561583.

The troop has been running for 15 years. It is run by Mervyn Johns (Akela), Dave Gritton (Crunchy) and Sue Lapthorn (Stripes). Mervyn and Dave have trained as Scout Leaders and Sue is a helper. All have been vetted (CRB) which is a requirement for all Scout troops. The District Scout Leader is Sue Larner, who lives in The Mounts, helps to run several groups in the local area.

The Cubs do a wide range of activities. This year they have been swimming, visited the Fire Station in Salcombe and the Coastguard in Hope Cove. They have been to Woodlands for a fun day or two. These are in addition to our Wednesday evenings in the Annexe where we learn about first aid, disabilities, growing things, crafts and play games.

The Cubs go camping three times a year, sometimes with other local groups, Scouts and Explorers, and sometimes just as 1st Malborough Cubs. The photos in the Gallery are of the Cubs in camp.

The troop is involved in various local events, they attend the Remembrance Day parade each year and also the St Georges Day parade in whichever town is holding the event.

Cubs learn a variety of skills – map reading, compass work, survival and, hopefully, some common sense. On their way through the troop, cubs can earn badges whilst learning new skills and gaining new interests. This does help build confidence and opens new doors for their future.
